My Early Love for Stories
Stories have always been a part of my life. As a child, I would often find myself lost in the pages of books, escaping into realms that were as vast and varied as the ocean. Whether it was adventure, mystery, or fantasy, each story was a new adventure, a new lens through which to see the world. The characters I met in those books felt like old friends, and the words themselves became my constant companions. It was during those moments of immersion that I realized the power stories held—the ability to transport, to heal, and to inspire.
Growing up, my love for literature only deepened. The more I read, the more I became fascinated with the idea of writing my own stories. How magical would it be, I wondered, to create a world from scratch? To give life to characters that others could relate to and root for? That curiosity grew into an ambition, and soon, I began writing my own tales.
From Writing for Fun to Writing Professionally
In the beginning, writing was just a hobby. I would scribble in journals, fill the margins of school notebooks with ideas for stories, and lose myself in creative writing exercises. But as I grew older, my passion for writing evolved into something more. I realized I didn’t just want to write for myself—I wanted to share my stories with the world. I wanted readers to lose themselves in my words the way I had lost myself in the works of my favorite authors.
It wasn’t easy making that leap from writing for fun to writing professionally. There were countless drafts, rejections, and moments of self-doubt. But through it all, I never lost sight of my goal. Once I have a rough outline of the plot and a good sense of who my characters are, I dive into the actual writing. I’m a firm believer in the “write now, edit later” philosophy. During the first draft, I allow myself the freedom to explore the story without worrying too much about perfection. The goal is to get the ideas down on paper—polishing and refining come later.
Editing is where the real magic happens. It’s during this phase that I fine-tune the pacing, strengthen character arcs, and ensure that the narrative flows smoothly from beginning to end. It’s a labor-intensive process, but it’s also one of the most rewarding aspects of writing. Seeing a rough draft evolve into a finished manuscript is always a deeply satisfying experience.
Inspirations and Influences
As a writer, I draw inspiration from many different sources—books, movies, music, nature, and even everyday conversations. Some of my favorite authors, such as Jane Austen, Gabriel García Márquez, and Jhumpa Lahiri, have had a profound influence on my writing. I admire their ability to craft rich, intricate stories that delve deep into the human experience, and I strive to bring that same depth to my own work.
But inspiration doesn’t always come from other writers. Sometimes, it’s the quiet moments of reflection or the beauty of a sunrise that sparks a new idea. I find that the world around me is full of stories waiting to be told, and I’m always on the lookout for that next bit of inspiration.
Themes in My Work
One of the recurring themes in my work is the exploration of identity and belonging. Many of my characters grapple with questions of who they are and where they fit in the world. This theme resonates with me personally, as I’ve always been fascinated by the ways in which our sense of self is shaped by our relationships, our experiences, and the world around us.
Another theme that frequently appears in my stories is the idea of transformation—whether it’s a character undergoing personal growth, or a relationship evolving over time. I’m intrigued by the ways in which people change, both in subtle and profound ways, and I love exploring that through my writing.
What’s Next?
I’m always working on something new! Right now, I’m in the process of finishing my latest novel, which delves into themes of memory, family, and the passage of time. Without giving too much away, it’s a story about how our past shapes us, and how we find the courage to move forward in the face of loss.
In addition to writing novels, I’m also exploring other forms of storytelling, including short stories and essays. I’m always looking for new ways to challenge myself creatively, and I’m excited to see where my writing journey takes me next.
